7 Galaxy Themed Birthday Party Ideas
Rocket into space, explore the galaxy in metallic shades of purple and gold, and collect moon rocks at your child's galaxy themed birthday party. Many parents are hosting space themed parties this year to celebrate their toddler or older child's birthday. So whether you are hosting a "Two the Moon" or "Two Infinity or Beyond" or another such party, this list of games has something for everyone. Make Your Own Moon Rocks
Crumble aluminum foil loosely into fist sized balls. Yes, it's really that easy. These DIY moon rocks can also be recycled (in some cities) after using at your party.
Prior to your galaxy themed birthday party, use the checklist to make sure that you have all the supplies you will need for every child to participate in the games or activities the kids will play. Most of these games can be modified with objects and supplies you already have around your home. As you'll see in the planetary toss game, I did not have "colorful buckets" and, honestly, didn't want to run to my local Dollar Store to purchase any, so I emptied toys out of collapsable bins I already had. Planning a party shouldn't be stressful but it oftentimes is. My hope is that these games will take a bit of the stress off your shoulders so that you can enjoy the party along with your child.
1. Catch A Star
To play Catch A Star, you'll need bobbie pins (one per player) and star stickers.
Prior to the party, place star stickers round the bottom of a paper cup. You'll need one cup with star stickers attached per player. Players will use their bobbie pin to take stars, one at a time, off their cup and move to the space in front of them. Players race to see how many stars they can remove, using only their bobbie pin, in one minute.
How to win: The player that moves the most stars out of bowl wins the game.
2. Planetary Toss
To play Planetary Toss, you'll need 8 colorful buckets labeled with a planet and moon rocks. See above on how to make your own moon rocks.
Tape paper planets to buckets prior to the party. Arrange buckets according to the order of our planets. Players take turns, tossing moon rocks into buckets starting with the first bucket and progressing to the last bucket.
How to win: The player that gets the most moon rocks, into the most buckets, wins.

3. Moon Rock Scavenger Hunt
To play Moon Rock Scavenger Hunt, you'll need 20 to 30 moon rocks and one bucket per player. See above on how to make your own moon rocks.
Prior to the party, hide moon rocks around your part space (indoors or outdoors). Give each player a sand pail and send players to find moon rocks.
How to win: The player that collects the most moon rocks in their bucket wins
4. Fly Me To The Moon
To play Fly Me To The Moon, you'll need one balloon per player, painter's tape, and paper cups (aka "rockets").
This game can be played on a table or on a hard surface floor. Prior to playing this game, use painter's tape to designate a starting line and a finishing line. Give each player one balloon (not inflated) and one paper cup. Player line up side by side, with cups in front of them. On the count of "go," players inflate their balloon with their mouth and immediately use the air in the balloon to blow the paper cup.
How to win: Blow your cup to the finish line before all other players.
5. Musical Solar System
To play Musical Solar System, you'll need paper planet cut outs, painter's tape, and a way to play music.
Prior to the party, tape planets to the floor using painter's tape. Planets can be taped to floor in a straight line or in a circle but they need to have 2 to 3 feet width between them. This game is played exactly like traditional musical chairs but without chairs. Players will stand in a line around the planets (set out one less planet than you have players). When the music starts, players will walk around the planets. When music stops, players will stand on one planet. One player will not have a planet to stand on so that person is "out" and will stand or sit away from the game space. Remove one planet and play again. Play until there is only one player remaining.
How to win: Be the one remaining player to stand on the last remaining planet.
6. Moon Walkers
To play Moon Walkers, you'll need 2 pencils per player, 20 to 30 moon rocks, and 1 American flag (or flag of your choice).
Moon Walkers can be played inside or outside. This game can be played as a relay race with teams or as a race between individual players. A player will pick up a moon rock using only 2 pencils and race around a flag then back to starting position.
How to win: The team or player that collects the most moon rocks within a certain time limit wins the game.
7. Rocket To Space Tic Tac Toe
To play Rocket to Space Tic Tac Toe, you'll need painter's tape, one straw per player (the straw must have a bend to it), and paper cups.
Prior to playing this game, create a Tic Tac Toe board on a table with the painter's tape. Only 2 players play this game at one time but you can set up as many Tic Tac Toe boards as needed. Players will simulatously put a cup on the end of their straw thus blow air through the straw to send the cup up into the air. When the cup lands, if it lands upside down, the player can put their cup on the tic tac toe board. If the cup lands right side up, the player must continue blowing into the cup until the cup lands upside down and can be placed on the game board.
How to win: The first player to get 3 cups in a row on the Tic Tac Toe board wins the game.
