The Birthday of the Church (aka Pentecost)

Today I have my Pentecost Children's Moment to share with you. I like to keep my Children's Moment's (some people call them Children's Sermons) to no longer than 4 minutes.

You will need flame stickers. You can purchase flame stickers from a store or make them yourself with one sheet of felt with the sticky on the back. Trace flame shapes onto your felt and cut out. Instant cheap flame stickers!

Say to children: Today we celebrate Pentecost. Pentecost is the birthday of the church. Every birthday includes wonderful birthday surprises. The Bibles says that on the day of Pentecost "all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a might windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit." The church's birthday surprise on the first Pentecost ws that even though Jesus had died, been raised, and then gone to heaven, his disciples were not alone. The Holy Spirit, the very power of God, was with them giving them the power to be the body of Christ in the world! What was true for the people on this day long ago when the church was born is also true for us today on the church's birthday.

Say and hand a sticker to each child To celebrate Pentecost, I have a flame sticker for each of you.

Conclude with prayer (I like to have the children repeat the phrase after me no longer than 2 or 3 words at a time): Dear God, thank you for your powerful Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, amen.

I hope you find this Children's Moment useful!

Peace,

Shawn
